My partner and I went back to Taipei Taipei again after our first visit. This time we tried their set meals.
We liked the Honey Lemon drink so much that we ordered the same again. Mine was cold while his was warm.
I ordered the pork chop set which is their main highlight.
This is how it was served. The deep fried pork cutlet was sliced and placed on top of a bowl of rice.
It came with a sweet chilli dip. Besides the pork, there was also half an egg and some funny smelling vegetables underneath the pork. I think those are preserved vegetables.
The pork chop was on the dry side and tastewise, there was nothing outstanding about it.

My partner ordered the chicken and noodle set. When it came to the table, he asked me where is the chicken.
I peered nosily into his bowl and pointed out those whitish stuff that looked like shredded chicken. There! There! There's your chicken! I sounded like a very bossy auntie.
And a short while later, this came.
Oh.....that's the chicken hee..hee..hee... Deep fried chicken leg. I like! It was served with these vegetables which didn't look like much.
This was how the complete set looked like.
Well, we have tried their dishes and some of the sets are combos of rice with one of those dishes. Honestly, I am just OK with the food here. I will only come back if there is no other choice for the evening.
From photos can see that the set meal is very practical. Honestly I like the fried chicken.
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is practical for a quick meal.
DeleteI like Honey Lemon drink too, but so far, i only had the cold version before, hot one, never had before...
ReplyDeleteI prefer the cold version, don't like hot hee..hee...
DeleteThe fried chicken looks not bad here.
ReplyDeleteI guess fried chicken can't go wrong.
DeleteHi Phong Hong,
ReplyDeleteI see your point that the food at this place didn't really impresses you... Yeah they look ordinary and also agree that they can be better :p
Zoe
Hi Zoe! The taste was just alright, nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps Taiwan food is like that?
DeleteYour set meal more full hor.. But the rice looks dry.. But nevermind, the fried pork is good, can eat dry like that with rice, or can curi some soup from the noodles.. And somemore got additional fried chicken, sedap..
ReplyDeleteIt was quite filling but tastewise, I was not so satisfied. Maybe because Taiwanese food is milder compared to our local food.
DeleteThe funny smelling vegetables look like the same ones your partner got in his chicken set....pak choy? :P If the sets are very reasonably priced, I guess it's ok to have it as a fuss-free dinner meal.
ReplyDeleteNo, they were some sort of preserved vegetables together with the ones that my partner had. But I managed to eat in spite of disliking the smell >.<
DeleteI believe that they tasted good enough to lure you back the second time. They should improve in their food presentation skills which you could give them free lessons!
ReplyDeleteIn that same area you went, there are several other nice restaurants to try.
So far I have been to Euro Deli but was turned away at Kompassion. We were early, there were seats, but they made some flimsy excuse which put my partner off and we never went back.
DeleteSure looks like they're very generous with the meat. Must be nice, for you and your other half to want to go back again.
ReplyDeleteThe location was convenient and I was curious about the set meals. I've satisfied my curiosity and I will come back if we don't have any other choices for the evening.
DeleteI thought you really went to Taipei.. then second thought, why typed Taipei Taipei... hahaha.. this auntie here is very slow one.. needs to re-read... anyway, the food here looks not too bad and I certainly would like to share the dishes above... half rice half noodles.. !
ReplyDeletehah..hah...the food is considered OK lah but not that exciting for me.
Deletei will most of the time just go for combo sets when i can see them on the menu, usually these sets comes with a main dish and a little bit of everything.. i am one who prefer varieties over quantity, and with probably just a few ringgit more, i get a drink and other sides on top of the main dish, i am very willing to fork out the money.. me very economical and thrifty one, hehehe~~
ReplyDeleteokay, now to the sets you ordered, both also i like actually and the decision will be depending on whether i feel like having rice or noodles.. but comparing pork and chicken, i actually prefer pork more when i especially know the chicken is leg instead of breast.. but from your photo, it looks like the chicken is more delicious than the pork, probably because the chicken looks more crispy and the pork looks a little soggy due to some sauce they drizzle onto it..
Deleteso it is pretty standard huh?? rice or noodles, chicken or pork and the rest would be the same veggie and also half of the egg.. i wonder what are those white thingy on the noodles that you "bossily" thought those are chicken?? are those some veggie or mushrooms or really shredded chicken?? the name of the combo is "chicken and noodles" mah, so should have one chicken with one noodles lah.. if just shredded chicken on the noodles, then it would be "chicken noodles" already, agree?? haha~~
DeleteCombos are quite attractive lah and most of the meals here are in combo form. I think it is convenient and you can just chose one set instead of thinking of which individual dishes to order. I believe there was shredded chicken in the soup and I was not paying attention to the description on the menu. It's quite hard for me to read small print these days hah..hah...
DeleteI don't mind the presentation of the food as long as it is tasty and to my liking. The sweet chili looks good with the chicken.
ReplyDeleteThe food is OK, perhaps a bit mild for my liking.
DeleteGo to the real Taipei and try their authentic food! :p
ReplyDeleteI hope to do that one day!
DeleteOhhh...yummy. I love the rutan whenever I had Taiwanese food. The la mian was nice too! I do love Taiwanese food and will go for it once a while but too bad, I can't many taiwanese restaurants here.
ReplyDeleteI've tried la mien at Dragon i but I think my taste prefer much stronger flavors. I've been eating too much belacan since young days, that's why hah..hah...
DeleteThe pork chop in Photo #3 and #5 looks dry but the fried chicken leg looks good though
ReplyDeleteThe chicken leg should be better though I did not try it.
DeleteHow much is each set? Both set meals look quite acceptable.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember the price but it was quite reasonable.
DeleteI should stop going to your blog around dinner time! All of this looks so good!
ReplyDeletehah..hah...next time come after your meal :D
DeleteI guess Taiwanese food are somewhat plain, so long as the taste is good & the price is reasonable, they will keep the customers coming back.
ReplyDeleteI suppose so, they have been around for quite some time.
