I can always count on my brother to torpedo my diet plans and I mean it in a good way (i.e. I have a good excuse to eat). Last Wednesday he came to my office to drop off some documents. I saw him carrying this red plastic bag with a box inside. I thought he bought himself a router. Until he took this out.
Oh! How delightful! And then I thought of my diet. I know what you are thinking. What diet? You've been downing Cookie Dough Cheesecake Bars! OK, you got me there. But I did start over on Monday. No carbs, just proteins and vegetables.
No, I did not eat any there and then. These were saved for my dinner. Meanwhile my brother and I had a chat, bitching about stuff hah...hah.... We always have fun when we get together, just like old times when we were kids. Then the intern handed me something that the boss wanted me to work on right away. So my brother left me to suffer get on with my work.
Back home, I couldn't wait to taste the Durian Puffs.
Oh, I gave one Portugese Egg Tart to my partner. Sharing is caring but you keep the Durian Puffs all to yourself. That's the way to do it.
So this is my share. I know it's unfair but life isn't fair anyway. I took a bite of the egg tart first.
Errrr...it didn't taste like what an egg tart should. It wasn't good I'm afraid. So I moved on with the puffs.
Surprisingly they still retained a bit of crunch though they were cold.
The filling was very sweet. Tasted very much like durian cake. I guess it was probably cooked with sugar to achieve that paste-like consistency. I am not a fan of durian cake, so this was not that great for me. But hey, durian is durian, so I had no issues popping all three into my mouth hee...hee...hee....
Ooppss.... Before I went home, I went to tapau dinner from Curry Leaf. Rice, mutton curry and my favorite curried vegetables (don't know the name). So the tart and puffs were actually my dessert.

Isn't this Sri Karak a sister restaurant of Yik Kee in Karak, who is famous for their durian puffs or bombs?
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky to be working in this area...Damansara Uptown has got a lot of good food. You seem to like the food at Curry Leaf quite a bit seeing that you tapau from there quite often.
I don't know if this Sri Karak is related to Yik Kee in Karak.
DeleteOh yes, I love the food at Curry Leaf. When the craving kicks in, I just walk over and tapau :D
Wahhh! Phong Hong, you are so unfair. You kept all 3 durian puffs for yourself! At least give one la to your partner. Well, I will choose to have what you have tapau for your dinner.
ReplyDeletehee..hee...Nancy, I was very naughty!
DeleteSo nice to have a brother like this. Does he want to adopt me to be God Brother?? Luckily the egg tart and durian puff didn't get your 5 star ratings. You know I get jealous easily one. Hihihihi
ReplyDeletehah..hah... Well, you didn't miss much. I am sure you have eaten better tarts and durian bombs.
DeleteBeside God Brother, your brother want to adopt God Sister? kakaka...
ReplyDeleteU know lah, i very greedy type of person lor, everything i loves, like egg tarts, durian puff, cookies, etc lol...
hah..hah... I also love those things that you love...
DeleteThe durian puff looks like "woo kok" (yam puffs), those from the dimsum shop.. I don't fancy durian, my hubby munches on durian keropok, and the whole house got "gas" smell, macam gas bocor like that, wakakakaka..
ReplyDeleteGot durian keropok??? Ya lah, durian smells like cooking gas hah..hah...worst is when the person burps.
Deletenice to be so close with your brother, and how sweet he is to tabao some tarts and puffs for you when he dropped by to pass you some documents.. I guess the whole office smelled durian-egg that afternoon?? haha.,
ReplyDeletehmmm, I see rice in the bowl!! I thot no carbs?? but then curry won't taste nice without rice to go with them huh?? but okay lah, it's just a small portion.. :)
I simply had to have rice with the curry. Or else it won't be the same hah..hah.. So hard to avoid carbs :(
DeleteHi Phong Hong, love Portuguese tarts, my favorite. Can't remember when was the last time I baked them. Really good. For your cough, do try seeping honey and apple cider vinegar drink regularly esp. at night to prevent itchy throat that cause coughing. It works well for me without medication whenever I have a cough.
ReplyDeleteHi Kimmy! Thanks for the tip for cough remedy. I will try it!
DeleteI would love to eat your curry leaf dinner! Had the durian puffs at Yik Kee before. I think the durian puffs have to be eaten warm or hot. No complaints from me when it comes to durians! ;)
ReplyDeleteGenerally speaking, anything with durian is OK with me. Unless if it is something really weird like durian coffee or durian soda >.<
DeleteI love love love egg tarts, especially the Portugese types. Made them once before, yummy! But too much works :(
ReplyDeleteI love egg tarts too and I also think it is too much work!
DeleteWhat a nice brother you have!
ReplyDeleteYes, he is wonderful!
DeleteI still prefer the durian puffs from that... apa-nama... they got a stall in Queensbay, specialize on durian puffs one...
ReplyDeleteNever mind, there's always next Monday. ;)
There's always a Monday to start over every week LOL!
DeletePhong Hong, I believe you have no problem baking your own tarts and puffs. Then, you can control the sweetness to follow your own liking. Aiyo! You should give two durian puffs and one egg tarts to your partner.
ReplyDeleteI was so greedy!
DeleteHi Phong Hong,
ReplyDeleteI don't really fancy egg tarts but would like to try baking some one day. I like durian puffs especially served chilled like having ice cream dessert :) hee .. hee.. I knew that you would reserve all the durian puffs to yourself ^-^!
Hi Karen! I wanted to try baking egg tarts but I feel it is a lot of work!
DeleteHad that puff before. But mine sadly when arrive home was oily. Maybe different chef kot.
ReplyDeleteBest to eat on the spot when still panas-panas.
DeleteHi Phong Hong,
ReplyDeleteMiss you and here again.
