Nasi Ayam Buana, Damansara Utama

Once in a while I go to a restaurant and the experience leaves me astounded.

This spot was once occupied by the excellent Epicuro. Then they upped and left. The place was then taken by Anneh then Cow Brother (what a name, right?) then Restoran Bintang Kemuning and now Nasi Ayam Buana.

I've been in this area long enough to know who came and who went.

I decided to give this restaurant a try because I love Malay/Indonesian food.

The menu is simple - Ayam Penyet, Ayam Geprek, Ayam Gepuk and a few other chicken dishes which come in a set with soup and condiment.

You order and pay at the counter and your order will be delivered to your table.

This was my Ayam Geprek. Or was it Ayam Gepuk? Sorry, I can't remember. One look and you know that I am done for. The cost - RM10.00.

I was dismayed when I saw the fried chicken breast. Totally my fault because I did not specify the part I preferred. But with benefit of hindsight it would not have made any difference.

Chili condiment. The beige colored thing at the center I thought it was garlic but it tasted neutral. So I have no idea.

Soup. It was the typical sup tulang.

Now back to the meal proper. Rice, two pieces of raw cabbage, a slice of cucumber, fried chicken, bergedil (I think that was what it was) and tofu puff.

The rice was clumpy.

The chicken was oh so dry. No distinct flavor whatsoever.

The bergedil was decent but the tofu puff was also dry.

And that was how I left my lunch. I am amazed how people can serve food like this and expect their restaurant to survive. The damage was RM10.00.

I adjourned to some other place nearby to drown my sorrows. LOL!

Diner beware.

  1. That's the reason why i m so skeptical & uninterested to try ayam gepuk, penyet or whtever they called Indonesian fried chicken. Most of the time it looks dry like this and the tiny portion of raw cabbage& cucumber does not help. The sambal & kicap manis have to be good, else the whole thing is flavorless & dry😅

    1. I have had some good ayam penyet/ayam gepuk and this one shocked me LOL! Ya, the sambal and kicap makes the food taste good or else, as you said, it is plain.

  2. Hi dear PH, the meal looks very dry, bland and anything but tasty. The chicken looks very dry. I always opt for the chicken leg or wings, because the chicken breast is big and usually dry (as compared to the legs and wings), so I prefer to order the leg or wings.
However, looking at your chicken, I would think that even if you had ordered a leg it still would have been dry.

  3. I just wanted to add, that at the price they were charging they could have added a salad! Two pieces of cabbage and a slice of cucumber is not a salad, it is a garnish!
