Cruffin

Back in July/August/September I was more relaxed with what I ate. Also I wanted to see the effects of reintroducing (more) carbs back into my diet.

Now that I have completely eliminated processed foods, I am able to moderate my intake of carbohydrates. I am also able to stabilize my weight.

I can't eat carbs everyday and when I do, I limit it to only one meal. My second meal will be my usual meat-based diet.

And when I want to eat baked goods, it has to be worth the glucose spike. My favorite place is Halla Holla, Damansara Jaya.

I went for the RM16.00 deal of one coffee, one pastry and a free sourdough cookie. This time I chose Black Coffee and Cinnamon Sugar Cruffin and I added one order of Brioche Cheese Stick.

A cruffin is a hybrid between a croissant and muffin.

Nice! Buttery and pretty much a croissant but shaped like a muffin.

The cookie which I have had before is a soft cookie and was buttery and chocolaty from the chocolate chips. These are available on the menu at RM10.00 for 3 cookies. Honestly, I prefer crunchy cookies.

The Brioche Cheese Stick is the only bun/soft bread on the menu and it is all that I looked for in a sourdough bun. It was soft and chewy with melted cheese at the center.

The cheese is mild but has a distinct taste that I grew to appreciate. I enjoyed this bun and cheese lovers shouldn't miss this.

So with that, my carb quota for the week was satisfied. And what do we do after we eat carbs? That's right, we go for a walk to run off the glucose.

So I headed to The Starling for my escalator climbing stunt. I basically look for an unoccupied escalator (which is quite hard to find during peak hour) and climb up and then walk down and continue to walk and look for another escalator.

If there are other users, I will avoid and walk to another escalator or time it in such a way that by the time I walk midway up, the person(s) ahead of me would have reached the top.

The idea is to do this seamlessly, walk, climb, come down, walk, repeat. I do this for 20-30 minutes. I know. You think I am gila (mad). But that's OK.

Of course I stopped to take pictures (so my workout was not so seamless after all). A Swanbag outlet is coming soon.

Oh dear, dear. That vegan place, Sala, has closed down.

To be replaced by SushiPlus, opening November 2024.

Well, that's something to look forward to. I knew that vegan thing won't last long.

Then I saw this standee outside a health center.

heh..heh..heh... No need, no need. Just reduce sugar and carbs (try to avoid processed foods) and do intermittent fasting. Do some exercise too. Your belly fat will reduce. For that money, I prefer to go for a nice steak.

If you are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, you can actually reverse this condition by doing dietary intervention.

But if you indulge in this sort of thing too often, then very susah. And yes, I did go and try this French Toast thingy. That post will come soon. Ooops!

  1. Thanks for explaining that Cruffin is tasted like Croissant but shaped like Muffin. That vegan place's name is not auspicious lah, sala (meaning wrong in Malay), not wonder nothing goes right, it goes wrong. Other reasons to factor in is rental cost, food prices, quality, etc. Nowadays things come and go much much faster than pre-covid times. What to do, we have to look forward and life goes on. Yes, usually after a meal, I would go for a mall walk or window shopping and then I got hungry again and I felt like eating again and the cycle repeated itself, LOL! Thanks for sharing the diabetes health tips as I suspect I may have diabetes but yet to confirm as I am going my health check up and blood test soon. By the way, hard to avoid processed food sometimes if we are to dine out and at times cheapo food are all processed food LOL! How huh? LOL.

    1. LOL "Sala = salah". Luckily I don't get hungry after walking. Hope that all goes well with your blood test.

  2. Ah, glad that you found a favourite place to indulge in carbs whenever you allow yourself carb. By eating omad I am able to keep myself between 43 to 46 kg. I find that being hungry keeps my mind sharper than being full.

    1. Yes, fasting helps with keeping our weight in check and I also experience mental sharpness.

  3. I need to think twice to have that French Toast, because it's rather expensive for my standard (any dessert that exceed RM20 is expensive to me). >_<

  4. Lol...when you indulge in carbs, you really go all out! But a pastry, a cookie and a coffee for RM16 is difficult to pass on...and, of course, it's not PH if there's no add on...wahahahaha! Both the pastries look glistening! ;)
