Ming Kee Cantonese, Damansara Utama

Ming Kee Cantonese opened last week. This restaurant is a nice addition to the many restaurants in Damansara Utama.

Yesterday, I wanted to visit to try their roasted meats.

Unfortunately, the restaurant was packed and there were three gentlemen waiting for a table.

After they were ushered inside, I went to check the menu.

Among their specialty is porridge and there are many versions. I was unable to snap a photo of the entire menu.

Porridge lovers will be very happy. There is even a curry porridge. Hmmm!

There are also many variations of rice dishes.

These are great for lunch.

I am keen to try their char siew and siew yoke.

And of course their roast duck.

And their boiled chicken and si yao (soy sauce) chicken. Ooohh...I do love me a good si yao chicken!

There are also noodle dishes.

Well, today, I went out a bit earlier.

I got me a table and a plastic tub of hot water with bowls and utensils was brought to the table.

Ordering is via order chit which I like because I don't have to struggle with the language barrier.

My focus is the meat section and for today I wanted chicken. I ordered the 1/4 boiled chicken and was contemplating adding an order of char siew. But I decided against it because I don't know the portion size of the chicken.

I also got me a Kopi O with request for no sugar.

On the table were two condiments - sesame oil and light soy sauce, Lee Kum Kee no less.

Many people were coming in and I was moved to the next table to accommodate a group of 6 people.

When the chicken was served, I was glad I did not get the char siew as the portion of chicken was big.

The texture of the chicken was tender and it was on the firm side if I compare it to chicken I had at another eatery. I enjoyed the chicken and I can see myself coming back for it.

However I must say that the sauce and chili dip were not my favorites. The chili dip is (I am guessing) made with chilies, vinegar, salt and sugar. I did not taste anything else.

As for the sauce, it was (to me) not fragrant. Maybe I should have helped myself to the sesame oil and soy sauce at the table.

The Kopi O was all right though it tasted (very) mildly sweet although it is supposed to be without sugar.

That was a good lunch and I will be back for the other meats.

I took this photo when I left. Since Ming Kee Cantonese is the current sensation for the lunch crowd, I expect that it will be packed for a while.

  4. Your photos are lovely, dear PH. There is a Chinese restaurant here in Montreal that is well known for preparing roast duck. I would love to try it but with my difficulties in swallowing of course I have been hesitant. I did send a letter to my doctor, though, this week, mentioning that I still haven't received a call for an appointment with a gastroenterologist, and that it has been 6 months now. Hopefully she will be able to do something so that I can get an appointment soon.
Thank you so much for sharing, dear friend.
