Bro's Eats

Sometimes my brother sends me some photos of his meals.

This one was not so recent - it was during the Chinese New Year week. It was a meal he had at Antipodean, The Atria.

These two photos prompted me to visit Antipodean.

My brother mentioned Antipodean to me a long time ago. But he told me the Big Breakfast was just OK although the coffee is good.

Well, I am glad I finally visited and now it is a regular place that I go to for lunch Fridays.

Recently my brother tried a restaurant right outside The Atria,  Gourmet Burger. His feedback was the Iberico Pork Belly is just OK only. So was the coffee.

The smash pork burger though, was nice.

He was not positive about the BBQ Iberico Pork Ribs. Apparently it was flaky and dry. I have had such pork ribs before. But the fries were apparently very good. His conclusion is that Gourmet Burger is only good for the burgers.

After I shared a photo of Antipodean's burger, my brother gave it a try (it was nice he said).

This was his breakfast at an eatery near his office.

I tried looking for Gourmet Burger but failed to locate it. So my brother gave me directions. Go to the exit at Mr Fish and then turn right he said.

So I walked to Mr Fish after lunch at Antipodean last Friday. On my way I spotted a new restaurant - Sour Little 7. What a quaint name.

I suspect it is something like Fish With You at The Starling. The theme color here is green while Fish With You is bright orange.

This is their mascot.

A child wearing a fish helmet.

Then I saw this Memang Best Noodle House.

Little Penang Kafe.

Ipoh Ais Kopi Chek Hup.

Ah, Esquire Kitchen is here. I miss the old Esquire Kitchen, the one back in the 90's. They were at the The Atria (before the major renovation) and my partner and I used to dine there practically every weekend. Now we never go to Esquire Kitchen anymore.

Mr Fish. This is the point of reference given by my brother. Exit the mall, turn right and cross the road.

Found! Gourmet Burger is right below The Last Comic Shop. I shall visit (both) soon!

Going back into the mall, I saw that Spitalfield's is still around. My brother and I visited in 2017.

Then I made my way back to DU. As you can see, in spite of the zebra crossing, a traffic warden had to be placed there to stop the cars so that pedestrians can cross the road. Why? Because.

    1. Beautifully said, Lotus. In response to your question on my blog, I am divorced since 1998. I have lived alone since then and don't mind it at all. My ex husband is living in the U.S. now and is in his 3rd marriage.

  3. Ah, so Gourmet Burger is outside Atria, in the shops surrounding n facing Atria. Just like Goon Wah XO Fish Head Noodle.
Thanks for the walk around Atria. I used to go there sometime before the pandemic.
Have a good week ahead 💕😊

    1. Yes, outside Atria at the surrounding shoplots. There are many restaurants outside which I might explore. Oh, so you are familiar with Atria. I used to spend a lot of time there when I was renting a room in the neighborhood.

  4. Dear PH, having my mid day afternoon break now, so hop over to leave you some more comments. The quote is so true! Your food photos made my salivate and soon it will be my dinner around 5.30pm to 6pm. I chanted almost each and every day and transfer the merits to all sentient beings. I felt so peaceful after my chanting and prayer and I did it with a heart of gratitude though my life may not be perfect. Nothing is perfect on planet earth. 🙏

    1. You are practicing a very good thing - chanting and transferring merits to all sentient beings. My aunt used to practice this too and she was very into Tibetan Buddhism. Indeed nothing is perfect in this life but we are grateful for what we are blessed with.

  5. What your brother had at the eatery is what I sometimes have at my neighbourhood food centre or coffeeshops for breakfast, without the sweet stuff ("donut" and kueh). For the meat, usually I go for fish fillet or chicken nuggets. They are tasty and affordable.

  6. Dear PH, I read about the smartwatch on the web and the downside is related to privacy. I may not bother getting one due to this issue. Just wanted to let you know about this.

  7. I was surprised to see your bro eating a salad...which is not quite like him! :D Well, if the place is called Gourmet Burger, it's rather obvious what's their speciality...lol. If you walk pass Little Penang Kafe & Ipoh Ais Kopi...keep walking...hah..hah. I used to dine very often too with my (extended) family too at Esquire Kitchen (when my FIL & MIL were still around). It's sad to see them closing down one by one (even the one in my taman finally closed after the pandemic). They used to be so popular...and then everything started to get so expensive for a small portion. Just a small plate of stir-fried french beans can cost you more than RM30! :)
