So my well meaning partner suggested this place at Centrepoint, Bandar Utama, near our home.
I was looking forward to a nice BKT meal. My partner had been here once and he had a positive experience.
We placed our order and while waiting I looked around noting that the restaurant was nicely decorated with potted plants.
We ordered the mixed BKT - one bowl each with two bowls of rice (both rice for my partner LOL!) and a pork and yam dish.
The pork and yam dish was very sad looking (and messy). My lahling told me - you eat the meat and I eat the yam. So I took one piece of meat and oh dear. The nam yue was overpowering. I did not like it.
The bowl of BKT was generously filled with meat, scant slivers of stomach/intestine, a piece of beancurd, a piece of beancurd sheet and one shitake mushroom.
I took a sip of the broth. Very weak and bland. None of the robust flavors that I expect of a good or at least decent BKT broth.
The meat was mostly lean and the texture was dryish. While chewing the meat, my face was turning purple, blue and green. It was difficult to swallow.
So I had to call in reinforcements.
Soy sauce and cili padi to help it go down easier. They also provide chopped garlic but as a general rule, I don't do garlic on a date.
My partner declared that he was too full from all the meat (I think it was more from the two generous bowls of rice) and that I should finish up the last two pieces of meat from the yam dish.
I took the meat and discreetly plonked them into the leftover BKT broth. Yes, I hid the meat and abandoned them. I just couldn't stomach it.
Prices appear to be reasonable. Unfortunately, I can't or rather choose not to eat any of these (for now).

Dear friend, I smiled at the last illustration in your post. Sending you a little purr! How sweet and adorable!!! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that one of the dishes disappointed you....the pork and yam dish. I absolutely love all your photos.
I thought it was cute and therefore a delight to share! Well, now I know where not to go for datenite LOL!
DeleteThe last poster is so cute! Looking at feline and meows make my day! I am sure your understanding partner would be ok though the meal turned out not up to expectations. I appreciate your sharing. Today is chor yat. One more month it will be Chinese New Year. I am observing vegetarian today. I had a wonderful Sunday weekend. I hope you do too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a delicious vegetarian meal!
DeleteI used to go to Centrepoint frequently during 2007 to 2009 as my friend's gynae clinic is there and I accompanied my friend for her gynae visits. After that I didn't go there anymore.
ReplyDeleteI hardly go to Centrepoint, preferring 1 U instead.
DeleteOh dear, I can imagine your face turning purple, blue and green 🤢 it must have been an unpleasant dining experience for you. What a waste of stomach space. 😐
ReplyDeleteUsually the default bkt they usually try to push to customers all the not so good cuts. Therefore my spouse always order either pork ribs or sai guat.
LOL! Ok, next time (but not at that place) I will order specific cuts. Thanks for the tip!
DeleteAh, you don't like strong nam yue taste. I guess you also don't like strong foo yue taste. I will eat the yam pieces like your partner but not those pork belly fatty layers.
ReplyDeleteI am OK with some dishes that contain nam yue. This one they put way too much.
DeleteYesterday my spouse asked me have ph eaten at ShaoHun restaurant in uptown? Got goose there. I don't remember reading you wrote about it so I checked your blog and then told him no.
ReplyDeleteThe restaurant is same row as the ship and I think is a corner shop lot.
Ah! I passed by Shaohun on one of my walks in December and I took photos. I forgot about it until you mentioned. I intend to go there one day.
DeleteWishing you a smooth and happy week ahead! Enjoy your daily walks and meals 🌞
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteOh dear, your partner's choice of BKT did not meet your standards...and you had to call in reinforcements...lol. I also dislike a bowl/pot of BKT that has scant slivers of stomach & intestines, they usually load it with lots of pork. Usually for BKT, you have to order the specific cut of pork you want, otherwise (by default) you usually get the more leaner pieces with a little fat. That's why I hardly eat BKT, I don't know how to order the cuts (don't know what they're called in Chinese/Hokkien/Cantonese)! >_< I think you needed the fatty cuts (ka wan?) which they will not give unless you specifically ask for them (coz not everyone would like such fatty parts).
ReplyDeleteToo bad, he is OK with lean meat and I am not. Next time when I go to a BKT place, I'll be sure to get specific cuts. Me too (and my brother), have a language handicap!
