So I jumped at the opportunity and there we were for our early evening meal.
Since I don't want to eat carbs, I chose the Beef Brisket and Beef Tendon (RM60.00). We also ordered one Fresh Lemon Tea (RM7.50) to share.
After our orders were taken, my partner (fearing that portion sizes might be small) decided to add another order - Crispy Pork Chops (RM29.80).
On the table to our left (apparently a work table) was a sight to behold.
Oooooooo........ So I asked the lady at the front of house if this is on the menu. She dismissed me (and I am paraphrasing) with a stern "No, no, no. You ordered too much already!".
I was rather amused by her reaction and I responded "I just asked only. Is it on the menu?". No. It's not on the menu. Bah! So I cried (ok, I pleaded) "Please put that on the menu!" wahahaha!!!
My partner was rather tickled by the "you ordered too much already" and said that they "don't know us yet". Indeed.
So if my partner speaks up and gives praise, then I can be sure that whatever it is he is eating is good. But I did not taste the soup or the wanton (though he offered me one).
And then my order was served, with steam wafting from the piping hot broth.
Beef and beef parts are expensive, so at RM60.00, don't expect a large cauldron of Beef Brisket and Beef Tendon.
This little pot of beefy goodness was on point - the brisket was tender although still maintaining a bite while the tendon was pure gelatinous pleasure. There is a flame under the pot, hence the steam.
There were also chunks of daikon, braised until melt-in-your-mouth and fully absorbing the flavors of the broth.
The broth itself was perfectly seasoned, the spices mild and yet pronounced, not overpowering at all. I love this braised beef and tendon combo. I want to eat this again!
The Crispy Pork Chops, though not crispy, were tender, moist and well seasoned. So they were forgiven for the lack of crunch.
As we were leaving, we saw the staff take out this large bowl of braised beef (it looks like curry in the photo due to the lighting).
As I again gazed wistfully at the bowl of braised pork trotters, the lady returned and offered me two pieces hah...hah... which I had to refuse.
Well, who knows she might take me up on the idea of offering pork trotters as a special on the menu from time to time, eh?
I highly recommend the Beef Brisket and Beef Tendon to those of you who enjoy beef cooked this style. I hope Sheung Wan Noodle House does well and that they stay in business (in this location) a long time.
Another note - I did not experience thirst after this meal and there was no sudden drop in energy. I/We will be back!
If that vinegared pork trotters isn't for sale, that would mean it was cooked for the staff's lunch? Wah, the workers are in for a treat (and PH is very jealous...lol). I actually love vinegared pork (but with pork belly, not trotters, and then I only eat the lean parts...haha) but it's not something I can eat now coz it's very high in sugar! >_< They use sweet vinegar and some will add more (brown) sugar to get the sauce nicely sticky. That would also mean the braised beef is also for the staff's meals (though it looks more like braised radish than braised beef)...maybe same recipe with very little or no beef (too expensive to feed the staff with beef...lol).
ReplyDeleteHong Kong-style wantan mee is instantly recognisable by its broth and shrimp wantons though this broth looks a little murkier. What is it with men...coz my husband is the same, will just stay quiet if the food isn't quite up to mark! :D
LOL! Yes, so jealous because I really wanted those pork trotters! The braised beef also has some sugar as the broth tasted a bit sweet. But that's how it is. Haiz! Well, if you ever decide to try this restaurant, let's see how your hubby reacts. Since you and your family have high standards, we might hear the sound of silence hah..hah...

ReplyDeleteIf you go and try, you can request for small portion. I was there yesterday to eat the beef offal and the lady boss suggested small portion but I told her I can manage to regular size. LOL!

DeleteI didn't see any pork trotter/knuckle related dish in the menu, the nearest is the "Spicy Sauce Pork Cartilage" .
