I had a bit of fun in the kitchen the other day. I pretended that I was frying Penang Char Koay Teow. What a laugh!
But seriously people. The chemistry of garlic, lap cheong, prawns, beansprouts, chives and eggs were all there. The only thing missing was "wok hei" something that we cannot achieve at home. Well, unless if you have an outdoor kitchen maybe you can crank up the heat.
Then I experimented with char koay teow mee. Same thing. That all familiar aroma and flavor of garlic-lap cheong-prawns-beansprouts-chives-eggs were present.
But alas, no "wok hei".
But I'm quite happy with what I produced. I ate a LOT of CARBS that day. CARBS = HAPPINESS.
So there.
Your CKT looked like the real thing. Next time out big flames and toss them high in the air many time like Wok Air.
ReplyDeleteI will try but I will make a big mess! LOL!
DeleteIt sure looks like real thing. That wok hei thing is overrated. With prawns, lap cheong, see ham and all, it will taste so so so so good already. Wok hei would be for noodles without much ingredients, dependent on that to give it some fragrance and taste...and a lot of msg too!
ReplyDeletehee..hee... thanks :) I still believe in wok hei. It gives the CKT or any fried noodles/rice that extra oomph.
DeleteWah, looks like the real deal with banana leaves...kekeke! ;) That's one dish I would never dare attempt to make at home coz it'll always be missing the 3 things I need (besides wok hei)...and that's see hum, chee yau char & chee yau char oil to fry the noodles. P/S: Did I spot an extra ingredient in your kway teow mee....lean pork? ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks hee..hee.. Yup, I added marinated lean pork. I might attempt making chee yau char one of these days woohoo!
DeleteI love the look of your ckt and ckt mee . I would love the taste too because I don't like wok hei.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I remember you mentioned that but for me, wok hei is important :)
DeleteWow got banana leaf some more, sure look like the real thing. Lol.
ReplyDeleteLOL! But did not taste like it >.<
DeleteDobrze piszesz
ReplyDeleteDziękuję Ci
DeleteLooks yummy and what a nice presentation!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI agree! Carbs means meaningful life! hahaha.. Once awhile, just close one eye and wallop otherwise no meaning in life! By the way, the char char noodles look very impressive, with banana leaf and all!
ReplyDeleteLOL! Thanks for the compliments :)
DeleteOopssss!!! My comment disappeared!
ReplyDeleteI got earlier comment :)
DeleteOh, how delicious! It's getting chilly here and carbs are exactly what I'm craving!!!
ReplyDeleteI love a bowl of warm carbs on the sofa in front of my TV. LOL!
DeleteOoo. Your ckt looked good and much nicer than I seen and tasted outside. Haha. Nice presentation some more. Lol.
ReplyDeleteHee..hee... thanks :)
DeleteAs long as it tastes like the real thing, we can forget about the wok hei.
ReplyDeleteIt was not bad but I still want wok hei LOL!
DeleteJust talking about CKT with my Penang friend as she said we can cook CKT at home but I told her the "wok hei" is hard to duplicate for home cooked. LOL But I believe yours is delicious considering the generous ingredients that put inside, can order ar? Hehe~~
ReplyDeleteLOL! It was not bad, if I may say so myself but I still feel the lacking of wok hei spoiled it.
DeleteNicely plated in the leaf.
ReplyDeleteI purposely bough the banana leaves from Aeon LOL!
