Cor Blimey! Is This British Fish and Chips?

This is another one of my backlog posts. I reserved posting because I did not have a good opinion of the food and wanted to revisit to draw a better conclusion.

But it's not so easy to revisit because this restaurant opens at 5:00pm and I prefer having dinner at home. Besides I don't want to bring my partner here unless I can vouch a second time if the fish and chips would be acceptable to him.

This visit happened many months ago with my brother when he gave me a ride when my partner was away. We have always wanted to try British fish & chips (without having to go to the UK hah..hah...) and we took this opportunity when Cor Blimey opened an outlet in Damansara Uptown.

My brother has been to Britain but at that time he did not think of fish & chips. He was more into their sausages and pies.

It was an early dinner as usual. 

The big mug of cranberry drink is my brothers and mine was iced water. The cranberry drink was very nice. Worth it to get a big serving to share.

For the fish, you have a choice of Atlantic Cod (most expensive), Butterfish, Snapper and Dory (cheapest). You also get to choose the batter - plain, lemon & herb, onion & garlic, coconut curry and chili lemon.

As for sides, it's either minted mushy peas, chunky coleslaw or baked beans.

We both decided on cod with plain batter. My brother chose the mashed peas for his sides.

I was pleasantly surprised that the mashed peas tasted very good. If I ever come here again, that's what I'll have.

My choice of sides was the chunky coleslaw.

Now for the fish. I keep hearing time and time again from my partner that cod fish is the best for fish & chips.

The fish was mushy and watery (in Hokkien I would say nuar nuar). It wasn't firm and kept breaking up when sliced. It also had a chemical taste. My brother experienced the same thing too. Oh dear.

This dinner cost my brother almost RM100. We were not impressed with the fish. 

To make up for the disappointment, we went over to a dessert place a few doors away, Softsrve Ice Cream & Dessert Bar. My treat this time.

We had the waffles with ice cream and caramelized bananas to share.

It was nice. Perhaps we were a bit full to properly appreciate the dessert. 

I won't mind coming back again another time for the smaller servings.
