Remember I said that we won't be back here so soon? Hah! We came back, this time with my brother in tow. It was my partner's idea and hey, if he's buying, why not eh?
My partner was quite keen to try the set dinner and we settled for this one.
Since it was still Chinese New Year (a day before Chap Goh Meh), we decided to have a yee sang as well.
It's always great fun going for the toss and making a mess. Huat ah! Huat ah! Huat ah!
It was very nice. I have always loved yee sang and I should try making my own. Then I won't have to wait for CNY to huat whenever I like.
But then again, I probably shouldn't. The only thing that huats is my weight and not my bank account ๐

This time, we did not have a chance to sit inside because it was full house. So we sat outside.
I'm afraid service was slow. It took quite some time for us to be served the starter, Deep Fried Soft Shell Crab in Money Bag.
It's a dainty little thing. More like a dainty purse rather than a money bag.
I loved it. The "money bag" is some sort of thin mantou and the soft shell crab was well seasoned and crispy. There was a sweet sauce (hoisin?) drizzled inside and it made everything come together so well. I wish I could have had another one.
When the server delivered this bowl of soup, my partner panicked a bit. What? One bowl of soup for three persons?? Yup. I was not the only one still disturbed by that little chicken.
Of course not. We were served a bowl each.
This is the Double Boiled Abalone Health Soup. My partner went digging into his soup to perform an audit. He found two abalones in his. My brother found one and I none.
So you see, substantive testing for audit verification is critical to form an opinion if the distribution of material ingredients is true and fair (it obviously wasn't).
An audit adjustment was passed and I got me an abalone. I thought the soup was quite good although it tasted a bit diluted. As with these type of soups, the chicken was quite dryish because all it's goodness had gone into the soup.
The next dish was the Pan Fried Iberico Pork Chop. I liked the little wabbit that came with it. So cute.
The meat was well seasoned, tender and juicy.
Our greens came next.
Sauteed Kai Lan with Black Fungus and Chinese Wine. It was a tad small for the three of us. So we had a bit each.
I enjoyed the chewy and crunchy black fungus. The kai lan was pretty good too.
Then our carbs arrived. Baked Two Variety Rice with Seafood in Pumpkin. The white rice you see on top are crispy like rice krispies.
My brother poured the bits left from the veggie platter onto my pumpkin. The rice inside was very flavorful. It was a pity that the pumpkin was undercooked. Or else I could have eaten it with the rice.
I thought it needed some seasoning so I added some soya sauce and my favorite pickled green chilies.
Before we knew it, it was time for dessert.
The Sweetened Red Bean Paste was a nice ending to our meal.
It had a creamy texture (the beans were pureed) and it was not too sweet.
I'm glad we got to sample the set dinner though it was not exactly easy on the pocket.
But it's all right once in a blue moon to get all posh-like and eat a grand meal. Well, Tang Room, till we meet again next year.
Hi PH
ReplyDeleteBest makan2 tempat camni sekali sekala kan..reward untuk diri sendiri..
Ya lah, Lina. Sekali sekala aje sebab terlalu mahal hah..hah..
DeleteDouble boiled soup feels a bit diluted? That's... not good...
ReplyDeleteNot good, especially at a place like this.
DeleteA very well assessed and audited report on your dining experience. Haha. I enjoyed reading this post. Lol.
ReplyDeleteSoft shell crab in the mantau! That was nice. I like the red bean dessert too.
Yee sang? Yes, can make one but too troublesome. So many work to do. Haha. I had yee sang on the CNY eve and oh boy! What a mess on the table and floor to clean up after that. Lol.
LOL! I don't mind the work on yee sang. But I haven't actually made one yet.
Deleteooo, this meal was less than three weeks ago ... but chinese new year feels like a looong time ago to me ... it feels like two months. we need a celebration again somehow ... i have three friends right now who are feeling blue for various reasons, and it makes me feel like there's a bit of a shadow of sadness going around right now ... tossing some yee sang might help lift some people's spirits ...
ReplyDeleteI am feeling blue myself right now. Sigh... Well, there's Hari Raya that comes early this year to look forwards to. Yay!
DeleteYou sure the amount of food is enough for you all, I am sure it is not enough for me, I am a big eater hee hee
ReplyDeleteOh, looking at the receipt, so you all ordered 3 sets of those food, that should be enough, I thought only 1 set
DeleteQuite OK because a bit of this and that in the end is quiet filling.
DeleteI do like yee sang. I'd like to see it a bit more often, other than only CNY.
ReplyDeleteMe too, we should be able to eat yee sang to celebrate other occasions :)
DeleteRM78 per head for a full course Chinese dinner is all right, works out to RM780 for a table of ten. Here, there are tables that cost less but do not expect too much from the food served. No whole abalone, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteQuite alright I suppose for a posh place like this. Their service could be improved though.
Deleteeat yee sang won't add much to your weight if you use more vege and fruits to make it and less plum hoisin sweet sauce. like Stp says above rm780 for a table of ten is quite ok though the portion is a bit dainty. i will put the undercooked pumpkin home in my trusted container and cook it a bit more at home and then eat it. want to save food as much as i can.
ReplyDeleteI should have thought of that - take the pumpkin home LOL!
DeleteThe wabbit, cute ya, hehe...
ReplyDeleteYa, I like...
DeleteWhen you look at the price per person (RM78), it's very decent for a menu of 6 dishes. But when the sharing portions arrive, they look too small to be shared by three (the cute wabbit was there to fill up the empty space on the plate...haha! ;D Those where you get individual portions are ok. I feel the meal is probably just enough for a small eater. By the way, what happened to the "yee" in the "yee sang"? Gone before it got tossed...kekeke! ;)
ReplyDeleteI feel that the portions are on the conservative side. They could have served the pork on a smaller plate and do away with the wabbit LOL! The yee sang came with jelly fish which was way too little :(
DeleteHow can they have missed an abalone in your soup? Macam ni cannot call abalone soup edi lo :P
ReplyDeleteLOL! Whoever scoop the soup didn't count properly.
DeleteLove the cute wabbit. I love yee sang too. If only we can enjoy it more often instead of once a year. I have tried making homemade yee sang but too troublesome.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to try making my own, so must try one of these days.
DeleteHey Mrs Auditor, the abalone is way above materiality to warrant and audit adjustment eh? home made yeesang is super easy...just get plumsauce n hoisin sauce...the rest is just rojak plus some salmon
ReplyDeleteWah, materiality some more :) Nanti I try make yee sang.
DeleteThat was a posh & yummy meal at a very atas restaurant....again!
ReplyDeleteI liked that Baked Two Variety Rice with Seafood in Pumpkin which looks like a Greek to me. The Greeks like to stuff their pumpkins and brinjals with rice & plenty of herbs.
If only the pumpkin was more thoroughly cooked, it would be better. Can eat the whole thing!
DeleteNasib baik audit dulu sebelum makan.. how come one got two and another none at all.. hahaha... maybe they testing you all..sharing is caring or not.. hehehe
ReplyDeleteYa lah, nanti I kempunan got no abalone :( Luckily he passed the test, huh? LOL!
DeleteHaha....betul ke next year baru datang lagi tu PH? Macam tak percaya jer...
ReplyDeleteNanti u free u share le resepi Ablone sup tu ye PH. Nak tau jugak mcm mana Chinese masak sup ni.
Yg penting puashati ye PH .....dan lagi ada orang belanja haha.
Sumpah, next year, Hainom LOL! Poket tak boleh tahan macam ni. Nanti PH cuba masak soup abalone. Ada satu tin dari hamper.
DeleteWahhhh memang banyak atas the price!
ReplyDeleteTerlalu atas sampai pening! LOL!
DeleteI still think the price is hefty for the food portion and quality >_<
ReplyDeleteI agree with you.
