Rainy Datenite

Friday evening it was kaboom! kaboom! Thunder and lightning and heavy rain.

I stayed back at the office later than usual because I had to get two last day e-filing done. Honestly, I hate staying back at the office. In this particular instance, it was a case of no choice.

Once the job got done, it was time for dinner. Where to go? My partner suggested, what about Hokkien Mee? Okie!

We went to Tiong Hokkien Mee which I think is better than Damansara Uptown Hokkien Mee (well, my opinion is based on what I ate a few years ago). I have not eaten Hokkien Mee in more than God knows how long.

The restaurant is a simple set up, no frills and the menu is a one page two sided laminated menu.

My partner opted for Wat Tan Hor.

I had the Hokkien Koay Teow. I looked at my plate and all that black sauce. I usually avoid this type of meal which is predominantly carbohydrates with scant protein. Buy hey, once in a while, it is all right.

I took a bite and yum. yum, it was delicious! There were small cubes of fried pork lard which enhanced the flavor of this plate of noodles.

I also got us a lobak to try.

It was all right, it was maybe those frozen pre-made lobak that they just fried before serving.

That evening, I suffered from leg cramps. My partner was not affected which made me suspect it might be the black sauce that was the culprit. I don't think I would eat Hokkien Mee again hah...hah...

  1. Ah, that day we thought we could eat the famous pj jln 222 hokkein mee but they only open in the evening so it has been a very long time since we last ate hokkein mee.

    1. Most of these places open in the evenings I think. Maybe not many people want to eat Hokkien Mee for lunch? hah...hah...

  2. Dear PH, your meals look so good!!! My doctor prescribed a medication for me which I started taking last Wednesday...one half hour to one hour before breakfast, every day! I am able to swallow much better now with less issues, and my coughing has lessened as well! It is such a relief, dear friend, I cannot begin to tell you!
I love all your photos. Thank you so much for sharing, and I hope you have a lovely week ahead. Happy November to you!

  3. Huh, you can even get leg cramps from black sauce? :O Oh dear. You're probably one of the very few who say "eat Hokkien mee" but end up having kway teow Hokkien mee instead which is not the norm (caused it's usually just the fat mee or with meehoon)...lol! If I choose kway teow, I'd rather have moonlight kway teow. Ya, the proteins in a plate of noodles (because of the cheap price) is usually very scarce...that's why I always add on pork slices (give that a try next time for a more satisfying plate)! ;)

  4. Hokkien mee but in kuey teow...tht's odd for meπŸ˜†. My parents would savagely say 'idiot, why don't u just eat ckt or fried hor fun?'πŸ˜†
Last time when i was a kid my family would order a few noodles like these and we had separate small bowls. The noodles are like sharing dishes and we pick and eat from our small bowl.
