Low Carb

One day, I did not feel like eating rice at Ke Ren Lai.

My favorite drink - Kopi C.

I ordered the Pig's Stomach with Pork Pepper Soup ala carte. No add-ons.

Oh, the soup was very peppery hot. It was tasty but the pepper was a bit too strong for me.

There were two processed pork balls in the soup and I usually avoid these because I don't like the texture and taste.

But surprisingly these pork balls were not that springy and tasted very nice, like there is more meat than flour in the content. Maybe these are made in-house?

Well, there was definitely not enough protein in the soup but it was all right because I was not that hungry.

Earlier that day, I came upon an Indonesian lady carrying a bag of rice on top of her head. I find it amazing. In fact some years ago I saw a trio of ladies carrying cartons of soft drinks on their heads. Very practical if you ask me, you free your hands and your groceries are on top of your head.

At The Starling, I passed by Zus Coffee and saw their Buttercreme Series 2.0. I dare not try after my experience at Luckin Coffee.

I remembered Linda mentioning that she bought a pair of Skechers. I did consider this brand of shoes but the price is a bit steep.

They got this leng chai to promote.

I walked inside and saw these shoes.

These type of chunky shoes my partner calls them "pow chin thien" shoes. I am sure they are comfortable as I have seen many people wearing these type of shoes.

At Jaya Grocer I found these purple daikon.

These might come in handy for making kimchi but I don't have time to spare. Maybe next time.

Then I spotted this pretty Hibiscus at the plant area. I know it will die if I bring it home hah..hah...hah...

hah..hah..hah... Agree?

  1. Dear friend, I love the cat illustration at the end, it made me laugh out loud!!! LOL! Thank you so much for mentioning me, dear PH, and for showing a photo of Skechers. Although I didn't mention the cost in my post, I will tell you how much I paid for my new pair. It was $100 Canadian dollars, plus tax. Yes, a bit steep, but I have seen them sold at other places here for $125, so I think I got a pretty decent price.
I have had gout several times in my life...thankfully not in the past several years, but as you know I am also pre-diabetic, so I wanted a very comfortable shoe for my beloved long walks in nature. I wanted a pair not only comfortable and easy to put on and take off, but also wide! I just wanted to be able to take long walks without any pain in my feet and since I have heard so many great things about the Skechers, I decided to buy a pair.
I plan to buy one more pair within the next couple of weeks so I will have them for the remainder of the spring and for our long Quebec summer (hot and humid, too).
Now you mentioned pig's stomach. Foreign to me. I do love, and have eaten pork, but never this particular part, so I wouldn't have any idea what it is like.
Your photos are beautiful, dear friend!

    1. Whoa! 100 Canadian dollars converted into Malaysian currency is a lot (for me)! I'm glad you love your Skechers shoes. Getting another pair makes sense since the shoes are comfortable. I'll probably try buying during sales so that I can get at better price.

  2. Sketchers is my go to brand for quality footwear. I have a pair that i bought 2 years ago at discounted price during merdeka day sale. They have such sale every year. The price without discount is almost the same in Panama too(after conversion from USD to MYR), so got to wait for sale then can get a little discount.

  5. My spouse like to order soups but I don't because I won't be able to drink all the soup and it would be a waste of good soup. Since the soup is too peppery for you, you couldn't drink all, right?

    1. You are right, I couldn't finish the soup. Too peppery hot and too much volume.

  6. I also don't like those quite artificial butter cream or cheese foam in my coffee. Tried a few from a few eateries before and all taste very fake.

    1. Yes, that's why I don't want to try. Better to stick to classic flavors.

  7. Carrying heavy items on the head will hurt or damage 🧠 cells or not? πŸ˜‚

    1. Maybe not if not too heavy. These ladies are used to it and their head/neck very strong. I know I can't do it!

    1. I understand that those shoes are very comfortable which may be why they are so popular.

  10. How you know that lady is an Indonesian? Maybe she is a local bred Malay?

    1. Sure, she might be a local Malay lady. It is the manner in which she carried the heavy bag of rice that I conclude she is Indonesian.

    2. Possible. Makes sense. Enjoy your weekends. I had replied to your email.

  11. The last quote is true. Even guys wear those chunky shoes. Oh yes, talking about kimchi, my lunch today was Korean bbq/spicy (not very spicy actually but very oily) chicken with additional kimchi (since I opt out the ikan bilis and the default soup), the chicken comes with sprinkles of green spring onions, some onions and cabbage strips, white pearl rice and a big juicy slice of watermelon πŸ‰, at my neighbourhood air con food court. This is a Korean Japanese fusion food stall. So my lunch was a multi color one, red in the kimchi and watermelon, green in the veggies, white in the carbs. Oh yes, I also bought a big bunch of banana 🍌 at S$1.50 and ate one🍌 at home. So colourful my lunch. Got red, green, white and yellow. Oh yes, as the bbq chicken is very oily, I twirl the chicken meat around the empty rice bowl to get rid of the oil and I ate the lean meat only without the skin. After lunch, it was short houseworks time to burn off the glucose/carbs and to work out any possible water retention in my feet.
