Burn Mala Burn

One weekday I decided to have just one meal. Yup, one meal a day (OMAD) simply because I wasn't feeling super hungry.

I went to Ke Ren Lai because I love the food and I like the ambiance. Certain places make me feel uncomfortable (in Hokkien we say "boh song") for reasons that I can't explain. It's the energy I think, not ngam with mine hah...hah...

But here, I feel right at home. I sat at the front, facing outside. Then my mind went a bit crooked.

If a customer is naughty, they could nip out of the restaurant without paying if they sat at this corner. When the restaurant is busy, no one would be the wiser. You would bypass the cashier counter and make your escape. Not that I would ever do such a despicable thing. Sorry, I digress.

Back to my lunch.

Let's see what I ate.

This is the ala carte Golden Fried Pork Cutlet with Chicken Floss. I requested for no dressing on the salad.

This dish was for extra protein. I need to build muscles! heh..heh... Oh dear, note the chipped plate tsk...tsk....

In spite of swearing off anything mala, I ordered this Mala Pork Belly Don.

I must say that I was very pleased that the mala pork was very tasty. I did not really feel the heat on the first few bites.

I did remove some of the dried chilies. And as I dug in, I was really enjoying the flavors.

And then as if possessed by the devil, I scooped some crispy chili condiment onto my rice and mixed everything all up. Oh my, it was so good, and a moment later I felt the burn.

Woohoo! My tongue was on fire! The chili oil underneath the pork belly slices were very potent. Add on to the extra condiment, I was asking for trouble. Pleasure and pain defined!

I drank iced water at the end of the meal and it helped somewhat. Well, I suffered the effects later in the office. And back at home too. And the next morning. Twice. I shall not get into the gory details hah...hah...hah....

Downstairs, Nando's reopened after some refurbishments. I shall visit one of these days.

Total steps for the day. I closed my eating window at 1:30 pm.

  1. Dear friend, I am surprised that you didn't eat smaller meals a few times rather than one meal.
I always like the quotes you share.
It sounds like you really liked the pork.
I hope you have a lovely week ahead.

  2. You are right my dear friend PH, certain cafe or restaurant just don't feel right, either it is too overwhelming or intimidating, the energy and qin does not give me (or other people) a comfortable feeling, guess it has to do with Feng Shui, there is scientific truth behind Feng Shui

  4. Dear friend PH such a coincidence regarding your last quote and illustration. That day I was pondering about this. As we age and grow old, we grow wiser and gain wisdom. We been through a lot and see through many things, as we see the cruel side of life and the reality, we are not happy. Unlike when we are still innocent and naive, we don't think a lot and as a result we are happier.

  5. Just like they say, which is about the same as the quote, when we are young we have all the energy but no wisdom, as we age "gracefully" so they call, we have wisdom but no energy lol.

  6. Ya, I agree with what you say about the feel of eateries. On Sunday I went to Antipodean in Midvalley mall but they only have one dining area between the corridor and road, not a proper shop unit so I don't feel nice so didn't eat there.

  7. I definitely cannot eat the mala pork. Thanks for the warning. Will try that floss and pork next time.
I try my best not to feel sad when I understand things. 😢
    Have a good Tuesday 😊
