Meatballs With Baked Beans

Who loves baked beans? Me! Me! There was a time when I lived in a rented room and I used to eat baked beans straight from the can.

Not only that, I used to steep instant noodles (the landlady did not allow cooking) in hot water and then drain the noodles as best I could and mix the noodles with baked beans. That was my pathetic version of pasta.

I'm glad those days are over and I can now prepare nice meals for myself. My favorite way to eat baked beans is with bacon, eggs, sausages and buttered toast.

This Meatballs with Baked Beans is not my original idea. I got it from The Fussy Palate and I thought it was very nice just because I love anything with baked beans. Combining it with fried meatballs is perfect when you want a convenient dish.

Meatballs with Baked Beans
Recipe source : Inspired by The Fussy Palate

Ingredients :
- 250g minced meat
- 1 big onion, minced and divided
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 tbsp tapioca flour

- 2 small cans baked beans in tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
- 1 tbsp light soya sauce

Method :
1. In a mixing bowl, combine minced meat, 1/2 of the minced big onion, garlic powder, egg, salt, pepper and tapioca flour.
2. Mix until the mixture is gluey and comes together.
3. Form into balls and fry in hot oil until cooked and browned. Drain on paper towels.
4. Combine tomato ketchup and light soya sauce. Set aside.
5. In a pan, heat oil and saute the remaining minced onions until soft and translucent.
6. Add baked beans and the tomato ketchup and soya sauce mixture.
7. Bring to a boil and add meatballs. Mix to coat and dish out to serve.

    1. LOL! Generally speaking, I only like meatballs. Not fish balls, sotong balls, beef balls or whatever balls.

  8. Ah, this is comfort food...I've actually done this with baked beans before. Just that I don't form them into meatballs, I usually just use minced meat. I guess it's great with meatballs coz the baked beans act like a sweet and sour sauce already...without the work! ;) But I must say I do it more often with eggs but not stirred in like an eggy sauce but fried (and scattered to pieces) before adding the baked beans =)

    1. I must try the way you do it. Sounds so much easier. And since I love baked beans and eggs, I must also try your scattered to pieces eggs with baked beans :)

  9. Baked beans are a favourite in my house, especially the hubby! I sometimes cook them with homemade meatballs too, or if I am short of time, I will cook with just minced meat and potatoes. And I will lepas 2 whole chilli padi in each time I cook baked beans, that's for me to break them up with rice when I eat this dish! :)

  10. Me...Meeeee too! During my younger days, my mom used to do it with minced pork or fresh prawns, one tin was not enough for the whole family for I ate most of it! Now my kids like the beans cooked with just egg alone... but I curi curi cook it the way my mom used to when they are not around.. :)

    1. It's very convenient to make a meal with it. I also see it at chap fan shop. They add some egg to it. Seems popular.

  14. For baked beans I'll normally add in egg and there are 2 ways I do it. Fried the egg then cut into small pieces and add into baked beans or the lazy way, just add in the egg when heating up the beans :P
I like your with meat balls added, I'll duplicate it next time! Thank you for sharing :)
