Asam Pedas Premier (CLOSED)

Every time I run my banking errands, this red signboard keeps catching my eye. Asam Pedas Premier. Somehow I never ventured over there to see what it was all about. After all, I am not that crazy over asam pedas.

Then one day I read about RG's Set Ayam Goreng Berempah which he had at the Asam Pedas Premier in Penang. So. It was time to head over to the one at Damansara Uptown.

I googled their menu beforehand so that I could decide quickly what I wanted to eat.

I settled for the Set Nasi Lemak Sambal Ayam and Ambra Asam Boi.

My drink came like this. I was careful when using the straw to poke the plastic cover to avoid spilling the contents.

It was very nice, a little on the sweet side for me. I waited for a while for the nasi lemak. I expected it to be served quite quickly since nasi lemak components are usually prepared beforehand and only need to be assembled.

Finally. When was the last time I had nasi lemak? It wasn't that long ago in July here

Time to dig in and guess what? On my first mouthful, I started coughing. Macam nak tercekik! That was my reaction to the hot sambal. Some chili went up my nose and arrghhh!!!

It took me a while to calm down hah..hah... It was a bit embarrassing lah. I took small sips of my ambra juice to help soothe my throat.

Now, that sambal was a good sambal. I liked it very much.  It had sweet, salty and sour going on, something I look for in a good sambal.

Then I attacked the chicken which realized was freshly fried, as it was still piping hot when served. Nice. That's why I had to wait and yes, it was worth the wait.

The sambal on the chicken was equally good. It had all the right flavors going except that it was a tad sourish for me. But no big issue since I do like sour taste.

The rice was at best decent. Though I could detect the aroma of coconut milk, I felt that it could have done with more. Some of you will tell me that if I want more "lemak", I would have to cook it myself. How many times have I read nasi lemak reviews that say the rice is not lemak enough? Countless.

This meal cost me RM15.90. I can see myself coming back again for another treat. Maybe not so soon because I really have to cut down on my rice intake. I know. You are sniggering. Yeah, right, PH. Nanti tomorrow you buat lagi.

  1. Wow, so the sambal is very pedas! Then I am sure I cannot eat that sambal but I think I will go for the ikan pari. Hopefully that sambal with the ikan pari will not be so pedas.

  10. ooo, i'm not an asam pedas fan either, but i'm willing to be converted ... again, it could be because i've not yet tried great asam pedas. someone told me this year that there's good asam pedas in damansara uptown - i wonder if it's this one ... is there another asam pedas restaurant in uptown?

    1. This must be the one. One day I will try their asam pedas and let you know if it deserves the "premier" title. To me, my grandma's asam pedas is the best. Hmm..time for some more experiments :)

  12. I don't mind waiting a little longer if it's because time is taken in preparing something fresh. I'd be happy with that hot chicken too.
