Another Wedding

It was a Saturday and I had a wedding to attend. This was how I looked like for most of the day.

Hello Madam. Halloween is over already.

I had to have my face rearranged and my hair also needed major work. The duster? Well, the house needed cleaning. So.

You know, usually the ladies like to torture themselves before a wedding (I am not talking about the bride). About two or three weeks before someone else's big day, they will start their prep work.

Hair, check! Facial, check! Heels, check! Gown, check! Accessories, check! And one of the most crucial issues - weight, check! If you want to look sleek and swanky in that hot dress and heels, you have to be of a certain err...dimension.

So they diet. For that you must have a decent head start. I would say 4 to 6 weeks is fair game. And then there are the ones like me who forget the date. "Eh, so and so's wedding is this Saturday". Huh? So soon? And that was a Wednesday when he reminded me. Bah! I just had another Pretzella for lunch.

I also had a crispy chicken burger. Double bah!

That gave me only 3 days to work with. But what the heck. I'm not the bride. And I am at that age when people are not interested in me. They will be more kaypoh concerned about the young adults and their love lives and when will they get married or when will they have another kid etc. It's great to be middle aged 😘

So let's get to it. I am all about the food and I am not good at making small talk with relatives. So I went to a corner to eat some muruku.

My partner-in-crime later kidnapped more muruku from the cocktail counter into the banquet.

As Chinese wedding dinners go, it never starts on time. So the muruku was helpful to get us through.

Meanwhile, I focused on these.

I quickly reserved my portion before any chili monsters joined us at the table.

The wedding favors were rather cute. There were chocolates inside. Yummeh!

The first course, my favorite.

Someone tried to take some of that orange flower thing. It's just decoration.

The other side of the platter looked like this.

Next up was the very nice soup. No sharks were harmed in the making of this soup.

I had only one bowl because I was saving space for the fried rice.

The roasted chicken was pretty good. It was accompanied by some mango kerabu.

I enjoyed it very much.

But the bones were still bloody.

The fish was deboned and ended up macerated like this. But it was good, just not presentable.

Prawns. Not my favorite because of the shells. If they were fried till super crispy, I could have eaten the shells.

I noticed a chip on my plate.

Ah! Carbs. I was waiting for this. It was good but did not have that "wok hei" fragrance.

This was the broccoli dish and it was almost gone by the time I snapped it.

These deep fried buns were awesome. I had two. Or was it three?

The honey dew and sago was nice except that some of the honeydew were not ripe and were quite hard.

Well, that's the last wedding for the year. Phew!

  1. Bravo!!! No sharks' fins!!! What? Saving tummy space for fried rice? I always thought that's for people who have not had their fill after all the courses - some places like hotels are not very generous with their servings so they would need that at the end. Lovely Cinderella carriage.

  5. Hi Phong Hong, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
The fried chicken and prawn look good. Most wedding dinner the dishes are very standard and sort of like ching chai cook especially if there are many banquets on the same day.

It's true, at our age no need do pre invitation preparation lah, nobody going to look at aunties. hahaha...Just for a wedding invitation, burn a hole a in our pocket do this and that, all the jazz waste money right? LOL

    Have a nice day, regards.

  8. I haven't been to a wedding feast for many years. These days , sadly, friends meet at a more morbid gathering of another kind.
Enjoyed your post. Hope you have a great year ahead!

  9. Hi Phong Hong,
    Merry Christmas!
I have not been to a wedding dinner in ages! The next one will be in May, so that gives me about 4-5 months to prepare myself! LOL! You are right, nobody would take notice of aunties like us! I like the second photo! Is it really you? hehehe!

  10. I see that you had a wedding dinner at Swiss-Garden. You must have been seated with people you know well to be able to snap pictures of the food...hehe! ;D After attending so many wedding feasts over the years, I sometimes wish hotels would be a little bit more creative and come up with some up-to-date dishes. That honey dew and sago dessert has been around for as long as I can remember...and I've had it so many times at wedding dinners, I've lost count....LOL! :D

  11. All that prep work!!! Is it a standard norm for most female guest?

I haven't been to a wedding for years.

Your diet sounds a lot more fun than the prep work for wedding guest. Cough, cough

    1. I know that some ladies do that. Look at them at weddings, dressed to the nines and looking glamorous.

  12. I have just been to a wedding a few months back but I have never done any prep work before going because I don't think it is necessary to do. Food looks fine, more or less the usual wedding banquet food. I would eat more of the prawns because that's my favourite.

  16. For this elderly aunty, no extra preparation for wedding dinner. I will just go like any normal dinner with friends. After all, we just go, sit at the table, eat and go home. Lol! You managed to take photos of the food. I find it impossible unless I am seated with very close friends.
