Nasi Kukus Lejen@Damansara Uptown (CLOSED)

"Monday onwards I will go back to low-carb diet". Who said that? Who? I don't know. I didn't hear a thing hee..hee..hee...

Last Friday evening, on the way to The Ship, I spotted Nasi Kukus Lejen. Hah! I made a mental note that I must go there for a nasi kukus fix.

The plan was for lunch the following Friday (because somebody swore an oath that she will low-carb starting Monday. Dunno who. Denial mode full on).

But come Monday, I fast forward my plan. I cannot tahan. I want to eat nasi kukus. Now. So.

Nasi Kukus Lejen is just next to Bank Rakyat, along the same row of shophouses where The Ship is. I did some googling and found out that this joint just opened in September this year.

It's a no frills outlet, you order your food and drink at the counter and then make your payment. Simple and straightforward.

The rice is packed in brown waxed paper (even when eating in) and you carry your food and drink in a tray to your table. Like this.

This cost me RM10.00. Very affordable. In fact I was shocked. Pleasantly of course hah..hah..

I couldn't resist the Coconut Shake. I took a sip before snapping this pic.

Very refreshing! The best part is, it is not too sweet. The ice cream tasted like corn flavor and it was very nice. Love this Coconut Shake. Won't mind having it again.

I chose the Nasi Kukus Ayam Berempah. That day they also had ikan keli (catfish) and hati/pedal (chicken liver/gizzard).

Sorry for the messy look. I forgot and mixed the rice before I snapped this pic.

You can choose which cut of chicken you prefer and I chose the thigh. The rice is doused with curry gravy and a mean sambal belacan with slivers of pineapple. The sambal belacan was hot, hot, hot, just the way I like it.

The ayam berempah was very decent. Flavorful though slightly dry. There was also some ikan bilis in my rice.

If there is any other comment that I can make, it's about the curry gravy. I felt that it was a bit too strong on coriander (ketumbar) and cardamom (buah pelaga). But that's just me, I found it overpowering.

I must come back to try the ayam goreng kunyit and ikan keli. And so I did.

This cost me RM11.00.

Coconut Shake again hee..hee... This time I went for the ikan keli (catfish). I love fried fish.

The poor fish was bent when the rice packet was wrapped. I also added 2 pieces of hati (chicken liver).

The ikan keli was superb! I went at the right time when the fish was freshly fried. It was fresh, crispy on the outside and yet very tender and moist on the inside. Lovely!

I might be addicted to the Coconut Shake....

So there goes my low-carb diet and as usual there is always a tomorrow....

Look a tad quiet so didn't go there for breakfast. We went to Village Park instead.

  3. I like ikan geli too! Last time my office canteen used to fry it crispy but inside was soft and sweet too... One fish cost 3rm and sometimes I buy just the fish to eat for lunch...

  4. This looks like an old-school nasi lemak set up...only in a cleaner and more comfortable environment. My choice would be the ikan keli too (love ikan keli especially fried with sambal). They all look good except maybe for the rice which looked a bit clumpy (wonder if it's really kukus?!) PH, you're very good at tasting spices (because you cook lots of such dishes using spices) to know exactly which ones are overpowering. For me, I'll just know that it's overpowering but won't be able to put a finger on which ones! ;)

I must say the prices are very affordable, almost as cheap as those charged by nasi lemak stalls. The name of the place...legen...I believe it's short for legend, legendary? ;D

    1. You know, every time I need spices at home, I take a sniff because I can't read the label hah..hah... (I am now in need of reading glasses but I refuse to admit it, hah!). That's why I am so familiar with the smell.

I am thinking the same thing - lejen is for legendary.

  5. what low carb? I also don't know about that. For lunch, just eat as you please since the portion of nasi kukus looks quite small when compared to a regular plate of rice. I am interesed in the deep fried ikan keli. RM10 includes the coconut shake? what a good price! I must eat there one day. I hope the shop is open during weekends as well.

  6. What a coincidence! Last night I ate the giant serving of Nasi Kukus at the Kukus shop which EWEW had eaten. It was superb and good to see heavens.

This outlet that you ate has a HQ which is a huge open air styled restaurant in Sungai Buloh. It is very near my office and my boss always belanja us to eat almost every fortnight. I love their coconut shake too!

  21. I think I know what Lejen means hehehe... they better be good lah, otherwise betray the name...

They scoop your pick and wrap the food up, or they pre-wrap all the available selections? If pre-wrap, not as good as scoop fresh leh...

    1. They are good, so justified lah to say lejen :)

They only wrap when you order, so it is freshly packed.
