My Balls Are Pale

Said the patient to the doctor. You could be anemic. Wei, Madam!!! Sorry, sorry, this is not where it is going. This is not  the right platform to discuss medical conditions.

So we redirect our focus on meatballs. How I wish Princess Ribbon were here. She would have had a field day with this balls thingy. Girl, I hope you are OK. I miss you.

So. Meatballs. Best fried not baked. But laziness got the better of me and I abandoned the frying pan in favor of the oven.

And laziness is the reason I made meatballs. They are easy. Too easy. In fact you can just go simple like this guy's meatballs or you go all complicated like me.

I add onions, mashed potatoes, parsley, an egg, tapioca flour, garlic powder, salt and lots of pepper. Then I mix it all up.

And roll up into balls.

Bake at 200C for about 25 minutes.

Some got slightly browned but others remained pale.

These are for my dinner for next 4 days. All packed and ready to be eaten.

  4. Baking is so much easier to clean than deep frying. Tastewise should be less oily too. RG will be happy that you linked to him here. :)

  6. Honestly, I was thinking of Princess Ribbon too! Yesterday I scrolled down my blog's list and saw her name. Her famous & funny sukak and sukak phrases danced in my head once more. I hope she is well and happy always.

Now focus on your pale meat balls.... I sukak this idea of home made balls with own top ingredients to the max. I think it is a good anti-carbo diet to loose weight for me. Are you selling your balls?

  7. My meatball recipe is all complicated like yours too (no lazy man version for me)...in fact, I use almost similar ingredients except I substitute tapioca flour with fresh breadcrumbs.

I also tried baking them once (after seeing you do it...hehe!) and also got the same outcome of not having the desired browning and crusty exterior (though taste-wise, it's still good). I remember you baking these meatballs in one of your previous post (Food Prep! His) and the meatballs also looked pale then...perhaps you can try adding a bit of a browning agent (like soy sauce or honey) the next time to see if it turns out better looking. Erm...I counted only 23 meatballs, so 6 for each meal...enough meh? Haha! :D

  8. Hi Phong Hong, great idea to bake meatballs, less greasy and quick, just leave it for the oven to do the cooking.... These days, I noticed that many are adding potatoes and even soybean residue to the meatballs. Why? Perhaps to consume less meat.

    1. Hi Kimmy! I put the potatoes as an added binding agent and also it adds bulk and I get more meatballs. Kiamsiap people do like that one hah..hah...

  13. I miss Princess Ribbon too. Thinking of it, I have not been seeing her commenting around. Hope she is alright.

Meatballs baked?? Somehow, fried sounds better and tastier to me.

You made and baked so many meatballs. Can finish all??
