My First Ever Big Breakfast

As a matter of fact, it was also my first ever Cafe Latte. I've never ordered one before. Am I pathetic or what?

It was Boxing Day. I worked on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and yes, on Boxing Day too. Again, am I pathetic or what? Of course not lah. I achieved a lot on those three days and I am glad I sacrificed my holidays for a better 2016 (hopefully).

I skipped breakfast because the Sashimi Bento I had the evening before was still digesting. At least it felt that way. I have been eating smaller portions these days as part of my effort to shed excess pounds. Previously, I could eat the Sahimi Bento plus some side orders but not anymore. Now the bento itself feels like quite a lot of food.

When I got to my office, I felt hungry. Very hungry. Then I thought, hey, I deserve a treat for working for the last three holidays. So at 10:00 am, I walked to Epicuro (CLOSED). They open early on Saturdays for brunch and I was a bit kiasu and wanted to avoid the crowd.

I need not have worried because I was the first one there. It's the holiday season and I guess many people are away on holiday or still snoozing away.

I sat at my usual seat (that's what I do. Wherever I go, I must seat at the same place unless of course if it is occupied) and ordered the Big Breakfast and Cafe Latte. When the server asked me if I wanted a single or double shot, I was at a loss. So I tembak single. That's how jakun I am.

Then I felt kind of weird being the only one there. The last few times I was here, the place was packed. It was peak hours then of course. Epicuro is very popular and it is best to be early.

The lonesome server.

Want to know why I did a Big Breakfast that morning? It's all RG's fault. Or rather influence. I saw his Lazy Man's Christmas Breakfast and I wanted some. Since I was on Lazy Woman mode, I did not have the energy to make my own. Besides, there's no thrill slaving in the kitchen so early in the morning and the thought of washing up made my mind shut down. It's nicer when someone else does it for you. All you do is just sit back and enjoy. At a price of course.

Ah, my Cafe Latte! I dispensed with the sugar (it went into my handbag. Could be useful when I bake) and had the coffee neat. Ooohh!! Very nice! No wonder my brothers loves it. It doesn't need any sugar at all.

There you go. My Big Breakfast. Two slices of toast, sauted mushrooms, pesto, scrambled eggs (you have a choice of sunny side up too), a sausage, two strips of bacon and two hash browns. Eh, where is the butter? I requested from the server and she promptly brought it to me.

Emborg no less. Nice. I wish there were some baked beans. But never mind. Well, I started with the scrambled eggs, moved on to the mushrooms and then zoomed in on the bacon and sausage. In between I had the buttered toast and hash browns. It was good of course and halfway through, I realized that the Big Breakfast was indeed big. I was feeling quite full already. This will last me till dinner. And it did.

Well, that was a satisfying breakfast. A small luxury for me considering that I can just sit down, relax and walk away when I am done. I was all tanked up and it was time to work, work, work! But don't worry, I took Sunday off :)

  1. Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day spent in the office for a better 2016, hmmm, at least you have had your Sunday off and today back to work again, probably in a rather empty office?? it does make things more productive and efficient working on holidays and when most people are out of office, you agree?? :)

  2. well well well, of course you must pamper yourself for working over the holidays while many went holidaying over the long weekend.. so a Big Breakfast with single shot latte to start your day and I am sure you were contented and was able to get everything settled in couple of hours when you got back to office later?? turbo on and you just spent half the time you need usually, hehehe!! :)

  3. I LOVE Big Breakfast!!! you have got sausage, bacon, sautéed mushrooms and hash browns there, and I guess those are good enough for me!! baked beans, I would prefer if they made it from scratch and not just take two spoonful out from the Cap Ayam tin, muahahaha!!! anyway, a scrumptious and sumptuous breakfast always make my day, especially this kind of continental ones, buffet style lags best, haha!! so you have got the lonely server attending to you and watching you eating all that 30 minutes?? hmmm, a bit awkward huh?? :p

  8. I see that you like to go to Epicuro quite a bit. Glad you had your first latte and first big breakfast! But actually your big breakfast is not very big leh...hehe! :D Those really big ones are served in a pan like La Casa or Yellow Brick Road. Eat one of those (on your own) and then I'd truly say you've eaten a Big Breakfast (those I need to share). Haha!! ;D

    1. I love Epicuro but I don't go there as often as I would like. I have to agree that the breakfast is not as big as those you mentioned. I'll have to surrender to those proper BIG breakfast as I can't seem to eat as much as before. This should be good, no? hee..hee..

  12. Yes, that's the usual price for a Big Breakfast...but we cannot get that here, so sad...and yes, those coffee latte or whatever can be so so so very expensive. I can go for breakfast here, noodles and drinks for two...and I can still have change for RM10!

I really wonder how young people can go to those coffee places, drink and eat some more and everything is so expensive! They must be so very rich, earning big money. I just can't afford that kind of lifestyle, really.

I did go to one here for tea the other day, long lost cousin from Australia...and the bill came up to around RM60, with a 15% discount. Post on that coming up soon...but under normal circumstances, don't expect me to go for that, thank you very much.

    1. Young people these days have an easier life compared to us. Some of them are living off their parents supplementary credit cards and having lots of luxuries all paid for. So they can spend their salary (and more) just like that.

  13. Hi Phong Hong, great sacrifice but rewarding. Once in awhile it is good to enjoy such meals. BTW, my BIL said he lost 3 kg just by avoiding all types of meat dishes in 3 months when I met him on Dongzhi day. Would you like to try this way?

  16. Hi Phong Hong,
Oh that picture of the lonesome server reminded me of some scary scenes in movies I watched ... hee .. hee!
A big and scrumptious hearty breakfast meal for 1 person. Definitely good for brunch.
Occasional weekend brunch for us is the McDonald's Big Breakfast meals ... hee ...hee! I will always upgrade to 'Deluxe' Big Breakfast meal to share with my girl. But it doesn't come with mocha or latte, just the common brew coffee. No sautéed mushrooms too.

  17. I like latte too. I seldom cook breakfast, looks like I am really lazy woman hahahaa! If I were to finish that big breakfast, by the time I get back to office, I would want to sleep instead of work. Just an excuse to be lazy ha ha!

  18. You are right, the answer is - Of course not! Wah, so now you are becoming a small eater like me. ;p

I hope that they allow sharing because I would definitely like to bring my spouse to eat this big breakfast and latte and share both items with him one fine Sunday.

    1. Of course you can share, I don't see why not. If you are sharing with your spouse, you can add on sausage and bacon or else it may be too little for two people :)

  20. Er.. I never really thought that the random crap that I whipped up can be considered as some sort of Big Breakfast hahaha! The one you paid for looks much nicer lah...

Eh, Emborg is considered good stuff? I thought it is the cheap ones. It is one of the cheaper brands of butter in AEON if I'm not mistaken?
